Codex Entry - Hornette

To many, Amber Coleson would appear as your typical twenty-two year old, a young and energetic college student who enjoys hanging out with her small group of friends while also delving into various activities and hobbies to keep herself entertained. Fortunately, and unfortunately, there really is not a lot that is typical about Amber, given the strange path that her life has seemingly taken. She has the blood of heroes running through her veins, but was meant for a much more sinister purpose, created to cause chaos and champion evil by her vile creators. When Amber was "born" she was known by another name, simply Subject S-2, a vat grown clone of the super heroine Silver Falcon, genetically created from the stolen DNA of Silver Falcon and her fellow heroine the Crimson Valkyrie. She was blessed with all of Silver Falcon's incredible powers, while also possessing Crimson Valkyrie's amazing reflexes and potent healing abilities. Her creator was the diabolical Doctor Kotetsu, who was able to turn her into a clone of the heroic Silver Falcon, though her programmed mindset was much less heroic. After several weeks of testing and extensive brainwashing, Subject S-2 was given a replica of Silver Falcon's iconic costume and unleashed on an unsuspecting Steel City. Her first act was to attack the Crimson Valkyrie in broad daylight, blindsiding the heroic redhead before giving her a vicious beating that left her battered and unconscious in the rubble of a ruined warehouse. Though this act was intended to drive a rift between Crimson Valkyrie and Silver Falcon, it utterly failed, and only strengthened their resolve to bring the vile Doctor Kotetsu to justice.

Despite her failure to drive Crimson and Silver apart, Subject S-2 did succeed in one area, the tarnishing of Silver Falcon's heroic reputation. Over the next few weeks she systematically attacked locations around Steel City, being sure to linger long enough for the local news and authorities to catch a glimpse of her, which prompted the Steel City Police Department to begin a manhunt for one of the city's most well known heroes. Public outcry demanded Silver Falcon surrender herself to the authorities, but Ashley Coleson, the woman behind Silver Falcon's mask, remained steadfast and with the support of her lover Tiffany Anderson, rode out one of the most stressful times in her young life. After several encounters with Subject S-2, both Silver Falcon and Crimson Valkyrie came to the conclusion that the young woman had been brainwashed to believe they were both evil and that they needed to be destroyed. Doctor Kotetsu did his best to reinforce this idea, though he would eventually be doomed by his own success, for while he had succeeded in brainwashing Subject S-2, he had not done enough to inhibit her own desire to learn and think for herself. While the vile villain slept, his creation accessed his computer network and began to learn about the world around her, and was shocked as many of his lies were exposed. Her realizations were confirmed during one final battle with Crimson and Silver, where she witnessed the two heroines selflessly leave the fight to rescue civilians from collateral damage, leaving themselves vulnerable to her attacks in order to save innocent lives.

Realizing that she was actually the person in the wrong, Subject S-2 assisted the two heroines in rescuing the civilians and then surrendered herself to them. Seeing that his experiment had utterly failed, Kotetsu activated a built in genetic fail-safe in Subject S-2 which caused her DNA and genetic structure to erode and break down. The young clone fell into a coma and it appeared her sad story of being used and manipulated would come to an end. Unwilling to let her vile arch nemesis take another life from the world, Crimson quickly flew the young woman to her lab and used her background in nano-technology and biological medicine to stop the degradation of her DNA. Unfortunately Subject S-2 experienced the loss of the majority of her abilities, and suffered other side effects, such as her skin tone lightening and the overall loss of some of her muscle mass and bone density. She recovered in Tiffany's lab while the SCPD announced the successful capture of a rogue meta-human that had been trying to tarnish Silver Falcon's reputation. Through the skillful media navigation of Police Captain Maurice Foley, along with her own continued heroic actions, the public's trust in Silver Falcon was soon restored and the incident of her rogue clone was largely forgotten about. Captain Foley was also instrumental in being sure that the fate of Subject S-2 was left in the hands of Crimson Valkyrie. After much deliberation, Tiffany and Ashley decided to adopt the young woman and allowed her to choose a name of her own liking.

Now reborn as Amber Coleson, she began to immerse herself in her new world as Ashley and Tiffany's adopted daughter, taking Ashley's last name to avoid any possible suspicions from the public eye. Amber spent the first few months of her new life mostly hiding in Tiffany's sprawling home, learning about the world around her while being nurtured by her parent's surprisingly unconditional love for her. Still ashamed for what she had done and what she had been created for, it took her a long time to cope with the fact that she had been given a second chance. While Ashley and Tiffany helped her get used to her new life, it wasn't until she met Theresa Doherty, a confident young woman who was also the young heroine Tessa Terrific. Tiffany had thought it would be a good idea for Amber and Tess to meet, given that they were around the same age, and her theory was proven correct when Amber began to come out of her shell after she and Tess became fast friends through their work at the Crane Foundation in Dreamhaven. Tiffany and Ashley's fellow heroine Spectre used her old government and military contacts to create an ID for Amber, and seeing that she now had a driver's license and social security number, Amber started to realize that she did have a future in the world. With a bit of prodding from Ashley and Theresa, she decided that she wanted to enroll at Steel City University, where she began to pursue and engineering degree.

As she became more comfortable in her own skin, Amber realized that she still had some special abilities, despite Kotetsu's fail-safe nearly removing all of her powers. Still possessing incredible reflexes and heightened senses, in addition to super human levels of strength and stamina, Amber began to mull over the idea of helping Tess, her "aunt" Mindy Marvel, and her mothers battle the criminal element that seemed to always be present in Steel City, despite their best efforts. She approached her mothers with the idea of becoming a super hero, telling them she wanted to make a difference in the world and make up for her disastrous origins. Initially a bit reluctant to the idea, both Ashley and Tiffany reminded Amber that she had nothing to make up for and no one was holding her responsible for Kotetsu's evil intentions. Still she persisted in her efforts, and eventually she convinced them to entertain the idea, though Tiffany insisted that Amber go through several months of intense training before she would step foot on the streets as a costumed hero. Both Tiffany and Ashley told Amber stories of their early years as the Crimson Dynamo and Silver Falcon, how they had to learn on the fly and would have benefited from the guidance of others at that stage of their heroic careers. Amber saw the logic in their request and agreed to go through the training period. What followed was the most intense period of her life, which saw her train under the watchful eye of many prominent heroes, in addition to the Valkyries of Asgard. She learned hand to hand combat techniques and investigative insights from Spectre and Nocturne, rounded out her skills by fighting demons with the Shadow Samurai, and forged bonds of team chemistry while learning how to synergize her abilities with others from Astra Girl and Mindy Marvel.

Though she was pushed to her limits, Amber welcomed the challenge and vowed that she wound not fail herself or her mothers, who had shown her so much love and trust. She spent a week in Japan training with the Jade Eagle and her fellow avatars, then spent some time in Egypt training under the watchful eye of Jaguara. The final bit of her training was a two week period spent in Asgard, where she was drilled physically and mentally by Tiffany's big sister Alaria Frostbane, learning about her mother's legacy as a Valkyrie of Asgard. Amber returned from her training a more powerful and confident young woman, and then set about designing her heroic persona with her mothers. She eventually chose a practical costume that had elements of Tiffany's old Crimson Dynamo suit, using nanite-infused material to keep her safe from bullets and blades, while the material also helped to enhance her own inherent strengths. With the help of Emily Adkins and Anna Waldorf, she created a tech-based bow and a multitude of special arrow tips that allowed her a huge edge in combat. After much deliberation, Amber decided to call herself "Hornette" and took to the rooftops as a new force for good. At first she accompanied her mothers on patrol, learning the ropes from them until she felt comfortable enough to start assisting Tessa Terrific with her own heroic endeavors. Eventually she and Tessa confessed their romantic feelings for one another and started dating, leading to the happiest time in Amber's life.
